Inspired by Sarah Records with a touch of Creation and 4AD Records, Starry Eyed Cadet is an indiepop/ shoegaze band based in San Francisco formed in 2013. At the time of the band’s conception, four out of the five members were of Filipino descent. And because Filipinos in the Bay Area shoegaze scene were such a small minority during its heyday in the 1990’s, the soon to be friends and bandmates would constantly see each other stick out at such shows like Ride, Slowdive, and My Bloody Valentine. This mutual love of the music and making music as minorities in the scene naturally brought its members together to form Starry Eyed Cadet many years later. The band was lucky enough to release their first album on Japan’s Fastcut Records after a successful performance at the 2015 NYC Popfest. Some of the members have also been in other well-known projects heavily involved in the Filipino music scene including the bands Julie Plug, Sweet Trip, and Marine Life. The band is currently working on new material slated for release in late 2020. Today, Starry Eyed Cadet are Gil, Ray, Roby, Rob, and Sally. Find them on Bandcamp: starryeyedcadet.bandcamp.com
