Brady, Justice, and Ryan grew up in Southern California during the 1980’s and 1990’s. As America-born children of Filipino immigrants, their cultural upbringing gave them a unique perspective as they navigated through life and the Southern California music scene. Their paths started to cross in the 1990’s as Brady and Ryan attended the same school. Concurrently, Brady and Justice worked on separate music projects and attended shows with friends in the same social circle. Many years would go by before the three of them would finally collaborate and form Death March. Brady became reacquainted with Justice in 2007 as their bands Resa, Piltatope, and Son Of Heatwave played shows at the Prospector in Long Beach. Fast forward a number of years, Brady moved up to Portland with Ryan following soon after. The two collaborated frequently on songs that Brady had been working on. In 2019, Brady enlisted the help of Justice to play a few shows and aid him in recording a few songs. During their recording sessions, the pieces of Death March started to fall into place. Brady had long held the idea of doing Death March as an homage to what his grandparents endured and survived during WW2. With Justice already tracking drums on Brady’s solo project, Brady shared a couple Death March songs. Reeling from the excitement of those songs, they quickly reached out to Ryan to join and make the project complete. Over the course of the next week, the three worked together to laying down the foundation of the EP that would define Death March. Their EP, Tarantado will be released on cassette soon. The band is currently working on a full LP and collaborating with various artists to further realize their shoegaze vision. Find them on Bandcamp: deathmarch1942.bandcamp.com
along with "A Lonely Gust Toward the Heavens" are among my favorite albums of 2019. Incredible music, great production, honestly it's incredible. antonella m
On their latest LP, the Austin group peel away the synth and distortion to highlight the jangly melodies at the core of their songs. Bandcamp Album of the Day Mar 9, 2022
Meticulously-crafted productions provide the backdrop for haunting, slowly-winding vocals on this gloriously shadowy EP. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 19, 2017
